In June, PaxX Gambia organized an Olympic day with the Gambia Olympic Association. Cycling was also included and they organized a few cycling races. Everyone was welcome and could participate. School teams, competitive and recreational cyclists, etc, ... The goal was to promote cycling. PaxX Gambia helped, among other things, in traffic safety and with the supply of water.
The intention was also to broaden their network through this activity in order to organize even more events and training in the future.
On 6 and 7 October they organized a bicycle tour to raise money for the support of schools. They also think of the children in Gambia to give them a better future. The bike tour went from Brikama, Jarra Soma, Farafenni, Barra, Banjul and back to Brikama.
If you know that they barely have money and yet organize fundraising, this is a very nice gesture from our cyclists.
We are already very proud of what they have already achieved. It is certainly not always easy for us to arrange everything logistically from Belgium and communication between them is often very difficult, but we continue to fully support them where we can. Because the bicycle gives them hope for a better life.
A big compliment for Cherno Joof, the leader of PaxX Gambia. He is the man who coordinates everything, organizes a teamtraining, draws up training schedules, etc ... Without him, PaxX Gambia never became what it is today.
From Belgium we send in August all kinds of second-hand items such as mountainbikes and racing bikes. But also helmets, bottles, shoes, clothing, inner and outer tires and other necessary bicycle materials were sent.
We would love to hear from you!
